May
our actions benefit all beings
like a lamp in the darkness.
----------------------------------
"Do not believe in anything
(simply)
Because you have heard it.
Do not believe in traditions
Because
they have been handed down for many generations.
Do not believe in anything
Because
it is spoken and rumored by many.
Do not believe in anything (simply)
Because
it is found written in your religious books
Do not believe in anything merely
On the authority of your teachers and elders.
But after observation and
analysis when you find that
Anything agrees with reason and is conducive
To
the good and benefit of one and all then accept it and live up to it."
Words
of the Buddha Kalama Sutta.

Karida Visual Meditation
Foundation: The Five Aspirations
To be recited before each meditation session
"May my meditation turn the Wheel of the Dharma;
may my meditation be grounded in fearlessness;
may the Earth bear witness to my meditation;
may my meditation benefit all beings;
may my meditation be centered in the heart."
Preparation: Calm Abiding
Focus on your incoming and outgoing breath. Mentally give the incoming breath a count of “one” and the outgoing breath a count of “two.” Continue this to a count of ten and return to one to repeat the count. Practice full, but relaxed, abdominal breaths. Do this until your mind becomes quiet enough that you begin to hear the whisperings of your heart.

The Journey
After you have prepared yourself by beginning each session with quietly focusing on the breath and reciting the prayer of the Five Aspirations we invite you to enter the "Journey of the Heart."
The Cave
This is the first of sixteen meditations with Kuan Yin contained in the book,"Journey of the Heart: Meditation with Kuan Yin." Each of these monthly meditations contains guided actions for your visualization. Repeat the visualization in the mind’s eye over several separate meditation sessions. Each of the sixteen images functions as an archetypal aid, in our work of inner transformation, stimulating the growth of our own compassion.
The Bodhisattva Kuan Yin issues a simple invitation: “Come. Be by my side and listen to the Heart of the Earth.”
Blessing for the Whole Earth
To be said at the end of each meditation session
"May the Whole Earth and all of its life forms grow in harmony and balance to achieve a bright and shining destiny. Particularly do I send forth loving thoughts to those in suffering and sorrow, to all those in doubt and ignorance, to all who are striving to attain truth; and to those whose feet are standing close to the great change we call death, I send forth oceans of Wisdom, Mercy and Love."
