Bodhisattva Kuan Shih Yin

Dharmachakra - artist Bob Jacobson courtesy of Osel Shen Phen Ling Tibetan Buddhist Center.Karida, meaning "essence," or "heart," is a Buddhist association whose members believe that only when the ignorance of the self is overcome and a pure heart is established, are we able to live in harmony with the rest of the Earth. We believe that the merit attained by the Buddhas of the past, present, and future, benefits each one of us and that, in turn, the merit we attain is shared with countless others.  This "Transfer of Merit" is made possible through the interconnectedness of all that exists.

In the history of Buddhism, Bodhisattva Kuan Shih Yin has come to be seen as the ultimate embodiment of Compassion. The literal translation of her name is, "She who hears the Cries of the World." In Karida practice we see Her as an external representation of our own compassion. Through our own special Kuan Shih Yin practices, such as chanting sutras and meditation, we seek to nurture that compassion within ourselves.

and opportunities for acting in caring and loving ways toward the Earth.  Our pursuit of this latter goal is exemplified by our support of the work of Amaterra, an environmental organization.  We encourage you to visit the Amaterra web site.  We see these three practices — meditation, art, and caring for the Earth — as core examples of Living Buddhism. Karida is an independent, nonsectarian  Buddhist Sangha. We welcome, as members, those of any spiritual path who wish to share in our principles and practices.   Joining Karida is as simple as establishing one's name on the membership list.   Removing one's name terminates membership.  We feel deeply that it is wrong to speak to others about our religious beliefs if we are not asked. On the other hand we feel that it is also wrong to not speak of our beliefs if we are asked.  Following this principal we do not proselytize.

Please contact us if you have comments, questions, or suggestions.
